Description of Regression Process

===

The person interested in having a regression experience first sees Dr. DeWitt for an initial interview. This permits Dr. DeWitt the opportunity to assess the individual in terms of the appropriateness of hypnotic regression. It also helps the individual to formulate specific goals. These may include:

  1. trying to understand physical or emotional symptoms and alleviating them;
  2. exploring reasons for specific affinities or aversions to certain people or locales;
  3. to assist in development;
  4. or others.

The person seeking regression can also assess his or her comfort level with Dr. DeWitt and his office environment.

Once these preliminaries are complete, an appointment is made for a regression session. These sessions are usually 75 minutes in length. The process consists of guided relaxation, concentration, and visualization. The subject sits or reclines comfortably and music may be played. It is important to remember that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Contrary to what we have seen portrayed in film, there is no control by the hypnotist. One's behavior and ethics are not changed or compromised in any way. The subject may stop the process at any time simply by opening his or her eyes. Hypnosis is merely a combination of physical relaxation and mental alertness. In this state the individual has a greater ability to retrieve memories, both those from earlier in the present life and those from previous lives.

The usefulness of this approach as a treatment modality comes from the therapeutic working through of the retrieved memories. Pain and symptoms can be left behind. Insight and lessons-learned can be brought forward. Understanding current circumstances in light of these memories and feelings can be very liberating. Also the individual often achieves much peace in realizing (or remembering) that we are all souls and that there is no death. Even the skeptic can consider this approach by choosing to believe that it is all fantasy. Its usefulness is well documented whatever the case. Individuals may return to discuss their experience in shorter visits, or may choose to have additional regressions.
